Interview with Mike Lubinski from Big Brother 5

As the biggest Big Brother fans know, Season 5 was the Season of D.N.A. (Do Not Assume).
Several twists in the game revealed a set of Twins playing as one player (Adria & Natalie), a brother and sister who never knew each other (Cowboy Mike and Nakomis), and whole hell of a lot of Drama with Drew (eventual BB5 Winner),
and Diane (Who made it to BB7 All-Stars)!

NOT forgetting the other cast of characters:
Jase and Scott (who made looking beautiful a masculine thing).
Holly (Who actually had a REAL Mannequin in her apartment).
Marvin (The Grave Digger, and one FUNNY HouseGuest).....

......AND Our Featured Interview-ee Mike Lubinski.

Mike was from Eastpointe, Michigan (A suburb of Detroit), and was not shy about his Republican preference in a year that held an Election (2004). He did NOT hide his views, and to this day, people still remember Mike for his Pro-Bush stance. NEVER has a Big Brother House Guest displayed his Political views as much as Mike did. He wore his affiliation on his sleeve (Literally! Who remembers his George Bush T-shirts while in the BB house?).

Mike was the FIRST person evicted from the Big Brother House in Season 5.

Dr. Detroit was able to corner Mike for some important questions about his stay in the Big Brother House, and to reflect as a Former Big Brother Houseguest.
Big Thanks to Mike for his time!
Go Red Wings!

Dr. Detroit from http://bbcouchpotatoes.blogspot.com/ asks:
"While in the Big Brother House, you voiced a very strong opinion about several topics including, Politics, and Homosexuality.
Do you think being so vocal hurt you?"

Mike: The short answer is no. No one in the house cared about politics, and the only person I discussed homosexuality with was Will. Will and I discussed it intellectually, and he made some very good points. Will was one of the most likeable people in the house and I know there were no hard feelings on either side. His family is from Tupelo Mississippi, and mine is from about 50 miles from there, so early on we were thinking he and I might somehow be related (do not assume/Project D.N.A.). I met his family and they were honestly the nicest people in the world. His father is a dentist, and my Aunt knows his receptionist, I found out later.

Dr. Detroit asks:
"There were several reasons that you became a target in the House.
What is YOUR opinion on why you were evicted first in Big Brother 5?"

Mike: Well, I know why I was a target, (and) it isn't my opinion. Early on, I knew Scott and Jase were a problem, and I told people it would need to be dealt with. Jase came to me and said they were going to put out Marvin, and I said I would like to give him my vote, just so he didn't go out unanimously. The day before I left, Jase and I straightened out several things that got me evicted. I have a signed photo from Jamie Kern (BB1), and I had told Jase that. He thought I knew her and had "ins" about the game. He also found out I told Marvin they were after him first. After I told him I never MET Jamie, and I only told Marvin AFTER he put me up, I could tell he realized he was wrong. My last day, he said to me, “if I had it to do over again it wouldn't be this way”. He also knew (what) I said that about them being a problem, but I don't think he ever felt threatened until I almost won the hula hoop thing, because the rest of the cast were very intimidated by him, and it was sort of me against the house.

Hi Mike. Carolyn from http://bb9dish.blogspot.com/ here.

"Given the opportunity to get back into the house, would you do it? If so, how would you alter your strategy to improve your longevity?"

Mike: I don't think I would WANT to do it, but a 1 in 12 chance at a half million dollars is a hard thing to turn your back on. You don't get those odds at a casino or state lottery. I didn't apply for season 5. They called me back from season 4, and I actually said no to begin with, so I guess my answer is, I would have to see how things were, IF it were to happen. It is hard to be away for a potential 3 months. I didn't have a strategy, and honestly believe that no one does. How can you develop a strategy when you don't know the people that will be in there with you? The different people, the changes in the game, the different contests, all make it hard to develop a strategy, beyond if you are going to lie or be honest.

Dr. Detroit asks:
"You have spoken publicly in the past that your experience in the Big Brother House was not a positive one. Can you explain why?"

Mike: My experience with Big Brother was fantastic. I love the producers, the casting people, and most of the cast. I was treated really well, and had a once in a lifetime opportunity. IN THE HOUSE, was another story. I have been working since I was little. I had my first paper route at 10, and I had 2 when I was 14. I started at a gas station at 15. I just couldn't take the endless boredom. It looks easy on TV, but when you are there, all you do is walk from one place, to go stand or sit in another. The competitions, really take up very little of your time, and they make you wake up in the morning, which makes your day even longer. Add that to the fact, that you don't get to have any source of news, or reading material and it was more than I wanted to do.

Admin Davey from
http://www.thebigbrothersite.com/ asks:
"I’m interested to know what your initial impressions were about each of your fellow BB5 houseguests, and if any of them changed once you were able to take in the whole season?"

Mike: That's sort of hard to remember now. I know I really liked Marvin and Diane right off. We were at the end of the line in our first competitin (the one with the swirling D.N.A. strand), and Marv was being funny, and Diane and I couldn't stop laughing. Scott and Jase seemed a bit much right from the beginnig, but as for the rest of them, I don't think I had really strong impressions.

Dr. Detroit asks:
"Besides returning to L.A. to crown the winner of Big Brother 5 (Drew Daniel), is there anything else Big Brother-related that you have taken part of?"

Mike: No.
___

Dr. Detroit asks:
"There were rumors floating around after you were on the Show that you were seen in chat rooms. Can you tell us if this is true, and what chatrooms, if any, you frequented?"

Mike: I always go into the chats on the live feeds. I was doing it before I went (into the House), and continued when I came out.I made some good friends there too. Littlechilibean, duckoff, ginger, and stephanie in hawaii to name a few. I think we were using FEED 2, (they tell me what our room is for the season). I didn't do it this past season, because I was doing to much other stuff between work, and fixing things in the house and yard.

xx2000xx from
http://bbcouchpotatoes.blogspot.com/ asks:
"As it's still fresh in fan's minds, What did you think of Evel Dick?"

Mike: Well, I know I was with Evel in season 5, he tried out then too. As soon as I saw him this year I recognized him, but I have never spoken to him. I don't want to say anything negative about anyone, but we are very different people. From parenting to social behavior, lol, let's just leave it at that.
___

Carolyn Asks:
"Do you feel like the addition of “Big Brother: After Dark” on Showtime adds to the show or detracts from it - in terms of the falseness of created activities designed exclusively to entertain the Showtime audience, such as all of Mike's (Dutz) "dates" last season."

Mike: I have never seen Big Brother After Dark on Showtime.
___

Dr. Detroit asks:
"What (if any) houseguests do you still keep in contact with 4 years later?"

Mike: I talk to Lori on occasion, and e-mail with Drew sometimes. I talked to Marvin alot, but he got mad at me for some personal stuff that was totally my fault, so I don't hear from him. Scott Long had a friend (Sean) in Hollywood that I made friends with, and continue to talk to, to this day. He came and spent the weekend at my house, when the Steelers were in the Super Bowl (they are both from Pittsburgh), and I keep up with Scott through him.
___

Dr. Detroit asks:
"Have you made friends with any HouseGuests from Seasons other than
Season 5?"

Mike: Yes, I love Danielle from season 3. She is one of the nicest and most genuine of all the people, although I haven't heard from her in a while. Amy is also very nice. Robert and Justin are great guys. Really all the former cast I have met are pretty nice. I exchange emails on occasion with Erika too, and I like her alot.
(Dr. Detroit: "Who wouldn't???)
___

Greg from http://www.bbfriendsforever.com/ would like to know:
"How are your boys doing?
Do your boys still take Karate lessons?"
(Greg met Mike years ago outside his sons’ karate class. Here is the picture.

Mike: My boys are great. My older one was the starting middle linebacker in football, and played on 2 baseball teams in the summer. He's good at all of it. My little one is in tap, and jazz dance, and is doing well in school. Unfortunately, my son ended up giving up karate. He didn't like going and when the place went out of business, I didn't try to fight him to continue.

(Hi Greg, tell your daughters I said hi too!)

___

Dr. Detroit asks:
"Do you still get recognized?"

Mike: What do you mean STILL ...lol...I never did. Maybe Will or Boogie gets recognized, but mostly I don't think most of the others do. I was standing in LAX after the final show with Will, Scott, me and I believe another cast member, and no one came up to any of us.
___

Dr. Detroit asks:
"Do you have any questions for Dr. Detroit?"
Mike: Where did the nickname come from?

(Ok. I was a DJ in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1992. The owner of the Club said I needed a catchy nickname besides, "DJ Jerry". I was wearing a Detroit Pistons sweater, and he said, "How about Dr. Detroit?", and it stuck!)
___

Last question! (from Dr. Detroit):
"We have discussed this before, but when the hell are we going to go out for beers?"
Mike: I guess when Nicole is home at night so I can leave, but I am looking forward to it!

Thanks Mike!
You Rock!
